Reporting Fraud

Reporting Fraud

FraudLineUK is a non-governmental site for reporting fraud and corruption in the the workplace.

FraudLineUK will accept reports of suspicious activity or actual incidents of fraud in your organisation.

You can make a report 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, either by telephoning FraudLineUK, or on-line.

What's required

One of the benefits of FraudLineUK is that you can make a report anonymously. This will help to protect you if are worried about retribution or reprisals. If you are an employee you may also be protected by law under the Public Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA)

However, we have a duty to guard against malicious reports, so while you have the option to not have your details revealed to the company or organisation you are reporting about, FraudLineUK will require your full verifiable details before we can accept a report as valid.

Your personal information will not be given or divulged to any third party anybody who is not working on your report without you giving your express permission.

How are reports handled

Your report will be passed to FraudLineUK's Intelligence Unit who will carry out an initial assessment and validation. This may mean contacting you, discreetly, through a pre-agreed method, to confirm, verify, or ask for additional information. The Intelligence Unit will also check for similar reports concerning the same organisation or company.

When we are satisfied that the report is valid it is passed to FraudLineUK's Risk Assessment Team whereupon a Certified Fraud Examiner will decide on the next course of action. They will also ensure that where you have opted for anonymity, the report will not be progressed in a way that will jeopardise your position.

When the appropriate course of action has been decided, the report is passed to our Fraud Investigation Team who make contact with the victim organisation.

You can choose to be kept informed of progress or not. Please bear in mind that the victim organisation may opt to investigate themselves or, as they are no obligation to act on FraudLineUK intelligence, simply do nothing.

Legal Protection

Legal protection for whistleblowers under the Public Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA)  is available to bonifide employees. In principle PIDA protects employees from consequent victimisation. However, it does not protect you if you make a disclosure to an third party who is not an appropriate prescribed body or person such as a newspaper. A full and up-to-date list of prescribed bodies or persons is available on the Directgov website.

FraudLineUK is not a prescribed body but as the reported information is only provided to the employer. This still counts as an internal report and an employees rights under PIDA still apply.
